Is it Safe To Kill Mold With Ozone?
Yes, It is safe to kill mold with ozone.
That is because to kill mold we are only talking about blasting very high levels of ozone in rooms unoccupied of animals and people.
These are known as High Ozone Shock Treatments.

Ozone kills mold and bacteria.

Much of the confusion arises between the two very different ways in which to use ozone.

The first way to use ozone is at a very low level for air purification.  At this low level it is safe for people and animals to be in the room. Some of our machines come equipped with special burst timers just for this purpose.
A low level of ozone will freshen the air, and kill a small amount of bacteria and mold in a room.

But this is not the way to truly kill mold in a room.
If a room has any type of mold problem at all it is strongly advised to blast that room out with unoccupied High Ozone Shock Treatments to help sterilize the room of living mold.

High Ozone Shock Treatments blasted into unoccupied rooms, are the only way to truly kill kill mold.
That's because to truly kill mold a level of ozone concentration far higher than we would be able to breathe must be achieved.

That is why if you have a mold problem a simple air purifier is not going to cure the mold problem.

Some of our machines can both purify the air and perform High Ozone Shock Treatments.
Some of our larger machines are only for High Ozone Shock Treatments and can only be used in unoccupied rooms.

Every day we get email from people who feel we are selling an "unsafe product" because they have read that high levels of ozone are not good to breathe.
They tell us that our machines are dangerous because they can exceed standard health limits for exposure to ozone.

Nowhere on this web site do we recommend that humans occupy areas with high levels of ozone.
We stress that to kill mold, any type, or amount of mold, it is best to perform High Ozone Shock Treatments in UNOCCUPIED rooms.

While it is safe to use low levels for air purification, and while we make certain machines that can be safely used for air purification because of our special "burst timers", to kill mold we strongly recommend High Ozone Shock Treatments blasted into unoccupied rooms, for killing any type of mold.

Otherwise the individual will simply choke themselves out with to much ozone trying to cover up mold odors, while really not killing the mold.

Can UV Ultraviolet light kill mold?

This is what General Electric, the manufacturer of germicidal UV lamps, states about ultraviolet lamps.

"Once mold has already formed, ultraviolet energy will NOT eliminate it."

There are some serious problems with UV, Ultraviolet air purifiers.

First off UV light is only going to kill bacteria that it can "see" and come in contact with.
If the bacteria does not pass in view of the light it's not going to be killed.
So if a UV air purifier does not use a fan, or a very slow moving fan, there is very little chance the light will be able to "see" and kill the bacteria in a room.
It can ONLY kill the bacteria it can come in contact with.

Since ozone is in a gaseous state it can flow all around us and it can come in contact with much more bacteria than UV light ever could.

Another problem is that while UV light can kill bacteria, most UV air purifiers use such a low level of ultraviolet light that they cannot be effective.

While UV Ultraviolet in duct air purifiers are now popular, their ozone output is very, very low.
Typically only 25 - 100 mg/hr or far less.

UV ultraviolet lamps are also ineffective in killing mold and bacteria.
This is a direct quote from General Electric, the manufacturer, concerning their germicidal UV lamps.  "Once mold has already formed, ultraviolet energy will NOT eliminate it."
This quote can be read on their web page: Will GE Ultraviolet germicidal lamps kill mold?

Here is a chart that displays the levels of UV needed to kill bacteria and mold.  Note that the levels to kill mold are much, much higher than to kill even simple E coli bacteria.

The highest ozone concentration that can be produced by 185-nm UV lamp is .2 percent by weight, approximately 10% of the average concentration available by corona discharge ozone.
These levels of ultraviolet light needed to kill mold and bacteria are hundreds, even thousands of more powerful than any UV air purifier made today.
In other words, you're never going to find a UV air purifier that comes close to the needed UV energy levels to kill mold and bacteria.

To the contrary, our high out put ozone generators can produce the very high levels of ozone needed to kill bacteria and mold. This is done by blasting High Ozone Shock Treatments into unoccupied rooms.

Most ultraviolet ozone generators have no ability to perform High Ozone Shock Treatments.

Many of our ozone generators have the ability to purify the air AND to give unoccupied areas High Ozone Shock Treatments needed to truly kill mold and bacteria.

Read more about ozone, and the levels it needs to kill bacteria, on our Ozone Bacterial and
Mold Killing Studies page.

The Air-Zone ozone generators do NOT use a ultraviolet bulbs as many other ozone machines use. That is because our United States patented ozone element is far more powerful than any UV bulb made today in terms of ozone output..

Our ozone elements are literally HUNDREDS of times more powerful than ultraviolet bulbs.

Why don't we use Ultraviolet lamps?
Because they are ineffective in killing mold and germs.

This is a direct quote from General Electric, the manufacturer of germicidal UV lamps.

"Once mold has already formed, ultraviolet energy will NOT eliminate it."

Our United States patented ozone element CAN produce ozone levels that can kill mold!
